Pharmaceutical and Food Products

In the food industry, talc powder is primarily used as a food additive and in materials that come into contact with food. As a food additive, it is commonly employed as an anti-caking agent, added at levels not exceeding 2% in products such as salt, powdered sugar, and milk powder—effectively preventing clumping and ensuring the product remains loose and easy to dispense. In chewing gum bases, incorporating 5% to 15% talc can enhance flexibility and improve texture. When used in food-contact materials, adding 5% to 20% talc to food packaging plastics like PP and PE can boost the plastic's rigidity and barrier properties while reducing costs. For instance, when 10% talc is added to polypropylene containers used for food packaging, the material’s rigidity increases by 30%, and its oxygen permeability drops by 25%. During application, it is crucial to strictly adhere to national food safety standards such as GB 1886.246-2016, carefully controlling the purity of talc powder as well as monitoring microbial and heavy metal levels. Additionally, companies should strengthen supplier audits and conduct their own rigorous testing to ensure food safety.
